Stephen A. McCarthy was born in Sydney Australia in 1954. His fascination with unraveling the facts about the Kellys, began at the age of 15 when his brother, Christopher, gave him his first Ned Kelly book.
His early employment located him in the Australian outback, surveying land and civil engineering. Steve possesses a sound knowledge of working metals as a hobbyist and manufacturer. Other hobbies have included gold prospecting and building and shooting muzzle-loading firearms. As a black-powder shooter for over 35 years he has won medals at Australian State and National levels.
A keen believer in seeing historic sites for himself, Steve has visited such locations as Stonehenge, the 'Little Big Horn', the Pyramids of Egypt and the Yucatan Peninsula.
He firmly believes the site of Ned Kelly's fortified hut on Kellys Creek (Bullock Creek) should be officially recognised.
